Our Team: Management

Wil Mozell

Co-founder, CEO  ︎

Wil has been building game businesses, studios and products for over 25 years. He co-founded BigPark in 2007, a game development studio he sold to Microsoft in 2009. The following six years, Wil led the growth of Microsoft’s development footprint in Vancouver with hit products like Gears of War, Kinect Sports, and countless other projects. Prior to BigPark, Wil spent 13 years at Electronic Arts leading numerous EASports and EASports BIG titles, including the creation of the award-winning NBA STREET Franchise.

Michael Smit

CRO  ︎

Michael is a builder of creative and technology IP with a focus on commercial success and industry achievement. He has managed hundreds of staff in the delivery of innovative games, products, and software solutions for Nike, Microsoft, EA, Sony, Disney, Intel, Apple, and more. His work has included executive roles for high performing e-commerce platforms, leading Free-to-Play games, blockbuster media and entertainment IP, and widely adopted AAA game software, including the 2021 launch of the world’s first simulated game character in Spider-Man: Miles Morales on the PS5.

Derek Yip

Co-founder, Design Director  ︎

Derek has designed, developed and launched hit products across console and mobile game markets for over 15 years. Prior to co-founding Sun Machine, Derek was Director of Product at A Thinking Ape, where he was responsible for leading the teams behind their top monetizing titles Kingdoms at War and Kingdoms of Heckfire. He was also part of the original team at BigPark, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2009. As the Director of Design, Derek is looking forward to using his experience to continue his lifelong passion of creating memorable game experiences for all types of players.

Ellie Moon

Executive Producer  ︎

Ellie has held a range of key roles in the gaming industry over the past 15 years. She led the User Experience (UX) of hit products, Marvel: Contest of Champions, and Transformers: Forged to Fight, and was responsible for spearheading the growth of the UX discipline at Kabam. After being promoted to Director of Operations, Ellie designed the new Game Development Framework for Kabam and collaborated with studio GMs, EPs, Marketing, UA, and Finance team to continuously improve the product review framework for 7 products across 4 studios. Ellie is passionate about creating accessible, user-centric products that many can enjoy.

Simon Tang

Technical Director  ︎

Simon has been in the online mobile industry for the majority of his career since 2004; from creating end-to-end online systems for social networks and games on black and white flip phones to building modern scalable systems for real time online games on smart devices and PCs. Simon has led core engineering teams in a number of studios (TGS, IUGO, UFG, IGG, airG) as well as establishing and leading a cross discipline Games team consisting of engineers, artists, qa and designers at airG. Simon strives to continue to apply his experience to achieve technical excellence at Sun Machine Games.

Felipe Cartin

Art Director  ︎

Felipe is a veteran with over 13 years working as Art lead and Art Director, guiding and organizing the efforts of teams of artists across multiple areas, and collaborating with other department leads. He has worked on various projects on multiple mobile and console platforms, as an art lead, animator, game designer, project manager and creative director. He was the co-founder of Tree Interactive, the Costa Rican Videogame Association and former art director and ex-producer at Fair Play Labs. Felipe strives in exploring visual aesthetics for every project, focused on generating a compelling and creative immersive experiences for the players.
