Sun Machine Games is a video game company that is focused on creating amazingly fun multiplayer games based on an original IP. The company was founded in 2018 by industry veterans with over 15 years of experience in the industry. Above anything else, we just love making games; in 2021, we are excited to launch our first title for a worldwide market.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a Level Designer that is excited about sharing their expertise to create memorable and intuitive maps. Our game is built around a strong gameplay loop, with compelling progression tracks and economy systems to engage our players over many years. You will be working with other members of the design team to design new maps, as well as improve the existing ones within our game.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone that is passionate about creating world class game experiences for players around the world. We are committed to giving you an environment to showcase your talents, and to create a game that you will be proud of.

What are some of the tasks you will be doing?

As a Level Designer, you will:

  • Design, implement, test, and polish multiple levels for our live game
  • Collaborate with Design, Engineering and Art to deliver a world-class product
  • Work within the metrics of game world that is constantly adapting to support new mechanics, dynamics and aesthetics
  • Analyze and predict how players play our game, then test your assumptions in a live environment and refine your designs addressing the whole gameplay experience
  • Be self-motivated and forward-thinking, always focused on improving players’ experience through map design with minimal direction
  • Help to establish best practices and to improve our map creation toolset and our pipeline

What are the qualifications for this position?

We are looking for someone that has:

  • A minimum of 2 years experience in Level Design
  • A great understanding of factors that influence Level Design, such as function vs. form, mass and void, flow, pacing, balance, scale, elevation, line of sight, Bushnell's Law, etc.
  • Experience with a 3D modeling package such as Maya, 3DS Max or Blender
  • Bonus if you have proficiency with Unreal Engine and the Blueprint Visual Scripting system
  • A strong portfolio with examples of finished maps
  • The desire to take map designs from vision to playable experience
  • The ability to analyze feedback in order to evaluate and improve their work
  • A passion for problem solving and the drive to take ownership and grow with us
  • Passion and curiosity for free-to-play mobile games
